Two recent guests on the Cybercrime Magazine podcast are industry luminaries who attended the very first RSA conference in 1991.

Martin Hellmann is best known for his invention, with Whitfield Diffie and Ralph Merkle, of public key cryptography. Dr Taher Elgamalan Egyptian cryptographer, is recognized in the industry as the “father” of SSL.

The two men knew each other well before the first RSA conference and have remained friends ever since. Hellman’s daughter worked for one of Elgamal’s security startups in the early 1990s.

Next is another leading cryptographer, Bruce Schneier, who was also present at the first RSA conference and has the distinction of being the first exhibitor at the event.
