In June 2021, Lisa Spaniarman’s 81-year-old mother sent $600,000 to a scammer overseas, but claims Chase turned a blind eye to the situation. The Los Angeles Times reported on history in 2022.

“It’s mind-boggling,” Spanierman, 53, a counseling professor at Arizona State University, was quoted as saying when the incident was first covered. “I can almost relate to the first time the bank authorized one of these wire transfers. But when it happens again and again, it’s just incredible. »

The US Sun reports that even though Spanierman accepted that her mother was ultimately responsible for the incident, she still requested partial restitution of the lost funds from Chase because she said they did nothing to prevent the situation from occurring .

Spanierman recently came on the Cybercrime Magazine podcast to tell the whole story. to our editor and host Charlie Osborne.
