USA Today published a comprehensive list of cybersecurity statistics this week things to be aware of in 2024. The editors of Cybercrime Magazine have put together a shortlist for our readers:

According to Cybersecurity Ventures, cybercrime has had a major impact on the global economy, with an estimated cost on a global scale. 8 trillion dollars in 2023and this should reach $10.5 trillion by 2025.

Cybersecurity Ventures estimated that businesses would be victims of a ransomware attack every 11 seconds in 2021. But by 2031, attacks on businesses, consumers, governments and devices are predicted to occur. every two seconds.

Since the FBI created the Internet Complaint Center (IC3) in 2000 to receive complaints related to cybercrime, it has received an average of 651,800 per year.

Four in five employers believe that careless or negligent employees put their business at risk due to unintentional data leaks, and more than three-quarters believe their business will be affected by a serious email-related security issue.

The average cost of a healthcare data breach was $10.93 million, more than any other industry and more than double the average for all industries ($4.45 million). The healthcare industry has also seen a 239% increase in significant data breaches reported to the HHS Office for Civil Rights over the past four years.

Manufacturing was the most targeted sector globally, with a fifth of all cyber extortion campaigns targeting the industry. Backdoor deployment was, according to IBM, involved in 28% of these campaigns, more than any other type of cyberattack.

More than 9 in 10 companies are planning or currently using AI and machine learning to improve their cybersecurity operations.
