This week, ESET researchers revealed their findings on Operation Texonto, a disinformation/psychological campaign (PSYOP) in which Russian-aligned threat actors sought to demoralize Ukrainians and Ukrainians abroad with disinformation messages on war-related topics. Carried out in two waves (respectively in November 2023 and the end of December 2023), the two campaigns disseminate false information on heating cuts, shortages of medicine and food, which are all typical themes of Russian propaganda.
In addition to this campaign, ESET detected a spearphishing campaign that recently targeted a Ukrainian defense company and a European agency and attempted to steal Microsoft Office 365 account credentials. PSYOPs and phishing operations are most likely linked.
