How cybercriminals are taking advantage of the popularity of ChatGPT and other tools like it to direct people to sketchy sites, plus other interesting findings from ESET’s latest threat report.

This week, ESET’s research team released the H2 2023 issue of its Threat Report, which examines the key trends and developments that defined the threat landscape from June to November of this year. Here are some interesting tidbits of information that can be found in the report:

  • ESET blocked hundreds of thousands of attempts to access malicious domains with names resembling ChatGPT
  • which makes Magecart such a ubiquitous web threat.
  • a new IoT threat called Android/Pandora compromising Android devices including smart TVs, TV boxes and mobile devices and using them for DDoS attacks,
  • Android spyware cases exploded and were mainly fueled by SpinOk spyware
