On December 19, 2023IRCC issued a total of 1,000 invitations to apply for permanent residence under the Express Entry No. 276 cycle during the last period. Targeted Express Entry Draw for trades. The CRS score of the lowest ranked invited applicant was 425suggesting that even those with lower scores have the opportunity to immigrate.

This draw marks the second time that the professions have been targeted. The first draw took place on August 3, 2023and saw 1500 invitations delivered with a CRS threshold score of 388. The decrease in invitations between the first and second draws could be a sign of a change in immigration needs or strategies.

Skilled trades in Canada cover a wide range of fields, requiring specialized knowledge, technical expertise and practical experience. Skilled workers must qualify through the Federal Skilled Trades Program to be considered for these rounds.

Eligibility conditions for the targeted Express Entry draw in 2023

Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, announced on May 31 the finalized categories for category selection in Canada’s immigration system. Bill C-19, which was passed by the Canadian Parliament in June, subsequently became law.

The categories chosen for category-based selection are:

  • Mastery of the French language
  • Health professions
  • Occupations in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • Skilled trades
  • Transportation occupations (including truck drivers)
  • Agriculture and agri-food professions

You must also meet all the eligibility conditions for one of the three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker ProgramTHE Canadian Experience Classor the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
