Various questions remain following the sudden and deliberate disappearance of the botnet, including: who really initiated it?

This week, ESET researchers described what they rightly called a “fascinating case of cybercrime”: the sudden and mysterious shutdown of the Mozi botnet. One of the world’s most notorious IoT botnets saw a sudden drop in activity in August, first in India and then in China. This ultimately led researchers to discover a kill switch that had been used to neutralize the botnet in a deliberate and calculated manner.
