If it sounds too good to be true…

As the Christmas holidays approach, ’tis the season to panic and make poor online shopping decisions. Tonight a friend asked me to help convince his family that an incredible laptop sale they saw on a laptop wasn’t real.

This is the ad they saw on Facebook. “For special reasons,” the company decided to “sell the last batch of laptops.” If you click on the Buy Now button, you will be redirected to the “maxwellplaceonhudson(.)com” website.

Now, I’m not saying everyone who reuse an image is a scammer, but John J. Rogers and MaxwellPlaceHudson are using a photo from a 2019 Mainichi News article in Japan about computers piling up in warehouses in China. . Doesn’t that sound familiar?

https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20191223/p2g/00m/0bu/050000c

John J. Rogers is an extremely helpful and interactive salesperson as people ask him how long it takes to ship laptops. It gives recommendations on which model to order and estimates on shipping time.

But how do you know if it’s real? … Testimonials!

Look at all the happy customers! “Sdhuy Fhabn” says “This is a quality laptop, built and specified! Very satisfied!”

Strange that all the comments on Sdhuy’s page are in Filipino. Even stranger? A person named Tonie Pomintel thanked computer seller “Memasabe” for a laptop using the exact same words!

Mandy also loves her new laptop. “Mine arrived, it’s an unexpected laptop, it even has a touch screen, I really like it!” he gushed.

Mandy lives in Quezon City, Philippines, which makes it odd that he’s mail-ordering a laptop from New Jersey. Even stranger? “Ams Minang” shared the exact same image to thank “Memasabe” for their new laptop!

MD tells us “So far so good, works great, looks great!”

But for MD, people who look like John J. Rogers are sort of “his type.”

I’m sure Mandy and Sdhuy are good people. But let me tell you, my friends, MD is a scammer!

MD Sajjad is a fake account that gives false testimony.

Take a look at his Facebook likes —

He likes John J. Rogers, Noah Robert, Oliver Noah, Sean M Hemming, Debra Carter, Gerry R Frederickson, George S Krebs, and RiodiJanero… who, surprisingly, all have the same two profile pictures!

Expert in love scam and online fraud “FireFly” on www.scamsurvivors.com know that one of these men is the model “Michael Justin”. The profile photo is taken from a MAY 16, 2019 post from Instagram user @themichaeljustin:

The other main profile photo is from a photo sales site and is titled “businessman with laptop thinking at night office.”

In fact, I think you might not really be able to buy a $2,600 laptop for $79 and have it delivered anywhere in the world in time for Christmas. But then my friends all tell me I’m paranoid.

And there are so many more…
