USCIS Withdraws Proposed Rule on Biometrics Expansion

On May 7, 2021, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services announced (link) the Department of Homeland Security withdrew a proposed rule (link) which would have expanded the biometric data collection requirement by removing age restrictions and requiring biometrics for each application, petitioner, sponsor, beneficiary, or other person associated with an immigration or naturalization application. The proposed rule was published on September 11, 2020. With the withdrawal of the proposed rule, existing USCIS policies will remain in place.
