March 25 Runway 66 offers Chicago Public Schools students a path to tech careers

As part of a groundbreaking initiative to close the education gap and meet the growing demand for qualified technology professionals in Chicago, the Illinois Institute of Technology, City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) and Chicago Public Schools launched runway 606 — a program aimed at providing students with a clear, accelerated path to high-demand, high-paying technology careers.
Track 606 represents a historic collaborative agreement between Chicago’s three institutions, and with the support of city leaders, to provide specific pathways into Illinois Tech’s technology fields while reducing the number of years needed to complete from high school to a master’s degree. to two years, thereby reducing economic and experiential barriers for Chicago’s talented youth.
In Chicago alone, cybersecurity jobs grew by more than 70% between 2010 and 2024, demonstrating the city’s growing need for skilled technology talent in the sector. Cybersecurity Ventures predicts that there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs worldwide by 2025highlighting the urgency and importance of initiatives such as Runway 606.
